Dear Father Cronin,
I would like to write to you about the christening of my grandson, , during the month of May, 2008. The only regret that I personally have was that our extended family and friends were not present to partake in the celebration of Owen's baptism. When we arrived at church for the ceremony, there were only two children who were to be baptized. The other family was also small in attendance, and I thought that the ceremony would take no more than fifteen or twenty minutes and we would be on our way home. Was I surprised, amazed and thoroughly moved by the entire service. You greeted everyone and introduced yourself to all, making everyone at ease and placing them in a joyous mood. …As we entered the church, to my amazement, there was an organist and soloist, playing and singing. I thought I was at a wedding. The ceremony was very educational, with you explaining in understandable and sometimes humorous ways what this Christening symbolizes and means to all Christians. Not only was I impressed with the ceremony, but with the assisting contingent members of the Knights of Columbus. Their gifts of the glass rose and the rosary were of special meaning. The Baptismal water and oil, the lighting of the Baptismal candle, the blessed bib and the impromptu speeches made by the godfathers all added up to a wonderful and uplifting experience.… Thank you for making our "Special Day" such a wonderful and uplifting event in making little Owen’s entry into the Christian, Catholic community a moment to treasure and to be forever remembered.
