Fred Hames
Frederick Paul "Fred" Hames, 91, passed away peacefully on February 10,
2025, in Palos Heights, Illinois. Born on July 18, 1933, in Chicago,
Illinois, Fred lived a life marked by dedication to family, hard work,
and an unwavering commitment to the people around him.
Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to
1955, spending 17 months in Korea working in Army Intelligence.
After returning home, Fred joined the family business. He began in sales
at Hames Oldsmobile transitioning to managing the back office. In 1990,
he accepted the invitation to work for the other family business, Buedel
Food Products. His proudest professional achievement was as the owner of
Frederick P. Hames Accounting and Tax Service.
Fred was a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and served as
Treasurer for years in one of the oldest councils in the Chicago area.
In recent years he was a member of St. Theodore Guerin Council 14057. He
also loved the volunteer work he did with Chicago Baseball Cancer
Charities. He looked forward to their annual golf tournament and played
in it for many years. He also enjoyed attending the annual Shriners’
benefit game at Comiskey Park.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Marianna (Matyniak),
their daughter Lauren, sons Jeff and Steve, sister-in-law Carol
(Matyniak) Holland, as well as several nieces and nephews along with
their children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Paul Leo and Catherine (Buedel)
Hames; his brothers George (Catherine), Anthony "Bud" (Eleanor "Babe"),
Robert "Bob" (Vera), and Leon “Lee” (Darlene); brother-in-law Thomas
“Tom” Matyniak; as well as three nieces and a nephew.
